Melody Casson was convicted of the manslaughter of Wayne Harper aged 18 days who she killed 50 years earlier in 1963.
She said that at the time she was 15 years old and that she smothered his with a cushion but at the time was so scared that she lied and said that it was an accident. However, 50 years later she became overcome by guilt and went to the police station to confess.
She said, 'I want to tell you something, to tell you everything. When I was 15 I had a baby, and he cried and he cried and cried and cried incessantly. I put a cushion over his face and smothered him and killed him. I said it was an accident but it wasn't. I said I'd fallen asleep with him. I killed him.'.
She was given a 2 years jail sentence suspended for 2 years.
